Performance 307 build!!

I am going to venture into un scouted territory here. A Street performance 307!! if your one of those guys that says switch it to a 350 then do not read further. i am going to push the limits of an engine, trying to get at least 200 hp IF that LOL. first i would like to know if anyone would reccomend this cam i found on jegs. http://www.jegs.com/i/Comp+Cams/249/CL42-222-4/10002/-1

5a heads, Plan on having them ported and new valve springs to match cam

You gonna work the heads, intake, exhaust ? Did you rejet that Qjet? Mill those heads for more compression.. you will get to 200 hp..

Yanno, you are only talking like a 30-40 hp gain .... even on a 307 that shouldn't be hard ... a stock rebuild on an Olds 350 probably already makes that. When it comes to cams just remember ... they fit 260-403 ... what is a "mild" cam for a 350 or 403 may seem pretty radical to the 307. Heads need work, intake probably needs to go in the dumpster and then you have the craptacular stock manifold set-up. Work those 3 areas and 200 should be an easy goal.

Its not worth it,trust me.The previous owner of my cutlass spent a sh*t load of money on that little 307.He had the engine rebuilt,bored .40 over,ported the heads,installed new internals and added a DUI distributor.All that made for about 200 horsepower,when driving it,it felt no different from a stock 307.Its worthless,so please dont waste you're money.With the money you throw into making a 307 have 200 horsepower,you can spend half that amount on rebuilding a 350 olds that has more power then that mild 307.On a side note,i am selling my 200 horsepower 307 for $200 and my 350 olds for $150.You arent that far away and $200 doesnt seem that bad of a price,one horsepower each dollar for that 307.

tell you what and no joke,if you drive that baby up here,we'll pull that one out and have mine installed in no time.It took me and one other guy an hour and a half to put my 355 olds and th350 transmission in along with some accesories.

That cam is probably going to be a bit big for a 307.

Are just putting a cam in it and rebuilding the heads? Or are you going to rebuild the engine completely with new pistons, etc?

If your just messing with the heads, cam, etc. then your not out too much as everything you use on the 307 can be transferred to a 350/403 later on.

BUT, if your going to be boring, honing, new pistons, etc. then you might as well go ahead with a 350 or 403. Remember, machine work costs what machine work costs, no matter what size the engine is. So the same money you put into machine work on your 307 could go towards a 350.

Also keep in mind that 200HP isn't a whole lot. You'd still have a low 15 second, *maybe* high 14 second car. A mild 350 would have you in the 13's.

I know its not what you wanted to hear but the fact is, if the 307 was a viable option for street performance, guys would have been using them for years.

if it your only toy. Then play, but if you can get something better do it. I tried alrdy. I had 84 307 with 5A heads, with K&N airfilter, holley 670 street avenger carb, performer rpm intake, comp cam 268H, Hedman long tube headers, 2 1/2 exhaust, x pipe, superturbo mufflers, complete MSD system, 0 emissions, 0 smog, no a/c. All that. I drove my car to a chassic dyno. I got 166 hp 217 Torque. Thats with a th-700r4.
