Its been a long time since I bought speakers.

I used to run pioneer 3 way 6x9's in the rear deck

They were great 20+ years ago

Are they still good?

NOT looking for super bass stuff just a nice clear sound.

NOT running an amp

I have the adapters for the 4x10 to 6x9;s already

I was alway told the 4x10's were worth getting, is that still true?

Thanks

Ditto, I'm window shopping for speakers too. The Rockford Fosgates I had in the dash...one is blown I believe so not putting those back in.
I have a pair of 3 way Sony Xplod 6x9's that were in the back that sounded great, but not opposed to 4x10's either.
I'm also not hunting for bass, just a crisp treble rebel.

Wow that’s a blast from the past. Pioneer 6 x 9’s we’re very popular back in the day and they sounded good. I have tried 4x10’s in a G body and was disappointed since they were not very efficient and had more distortion due to cone breakup. Since you have the adapters already I would go 6 x 9. From a physics perspective a round speaker will be better than an oval. The only reason GM used oval speakers is because of limited space in the package tray.

What is an example of a soft dome tweeter?

Are the 3.5 "dash" speakers only considered tweeters?

If you can’t find a “soft done” which are smooth by the way, then just make sure you’re getting a tweeter with a voice coil. Avoid piezo electric tweeters if possible. They are efficient but are very harsh sounding.
