Well I wanted a 4speed so I went and got a 200r4 from the junkyard....

Pulled the oil pan to swap the TV plunger spring didn't see anything crazy. During the test drive it would not shift until 5500ish rpm.

After some Googling sounded like it could be the govenor. So today I pulled the pan to check it the govenor springs are there, but I could this plastic thing in the oil pan that wasn't there before....

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I'm assuming that would cause it to have the issues shifting? This morning it went through the gears at lower rpm but I still had to get off the gas for it to shift.

If memory serves me right it’s located behind the stator shaft on the back of the pump

It’s number 9 thrust housing to pump so you might get away with pulling the trans pulling the pump out and replacing it with out a full rebuild

Thanks, it had a warranty from the yard so I took it back. They gave me another one, it had stripped splines. After I got my cash back I drove to summit bought the only one they had in stock it's in the car haven't had a chance to drive it much but we shall see. Also got a stall converter....

Now to figure out how to get the lockup to work I think all I need is a vacuum switch.

They make some kits to make it work you also can just use a toggle switch,I think there may be some early 81,2,3 cars with a vacuum switch factory and a few diesels of that vintage also, the other thing you can do is put a 3rd or 4th gear enable switch in so it will only lock up in 3-4 or 4 if you prefer that some have a switch like that factory depending on year/model
