I have a 1984 Monte Carlo with a 7.625 rear in it that I just bent the driver side axle. I need a 9" but I don't want to necessarily get one off quick performance because that's going to cost $2,000. I've heard that the only thing you have to do is find a 66-77 bronco and yank the rear out of it because they are 58" like the gbody. They are supposed to be 31 spline already. My question is, is all you have to do is weld the suspension brackets on it? Or is shortening and customization necessary? Both are 58" I know one side of the aftermarket 9" housing for the gbody is shorter than the other. Is the bronco the same? Please help I'm about to pull my hair out.

Ford Broncos are pretty rare/expensive these days.

Lincoln Versailles/Ford Granada rears could have disk brakes and are only 1/2" wider, which will still allow 4" BS X 8" wheels to fit without the tires rubbing the frame. These used to be plentiful but are also getting rare.

Awesome... reason I ask is I have a first gen bronco ready to roll. I just want to make sure I'm not going to have to cut the tubes or anything silly like that. I'm friends with a bunch of circle track guys who fabricate disk brake stuff so that's not an issue if they happen to be drums. I'm not really worried either way I just need a 9" lol.. so in your experience, it's just weld spring perches and bracket on and you're good?

If you are happy with the gear ratio you have why not just upgrade the axles?

Save your money and buy a Moser housing

The QP's leak oil.

Find a junkyard/ craigslist 7.5 and install that until you have enough money for the 9 if it is a daily driver.

Like UNGN said anything attached to the name Bronco is not going to be cheap and is desirable for the Bronco community.

Not to mention your pinion angle will be way off

I know. Cobra kit car guys snatched them all up in the 1990's. But when you do find that little old lady that has had one sitting in her garage for 25 years, it will be cheap.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing you're doing timmyadkins. I just recently scored a early bronco 9" housing in a package deal from a circle track racer. Mine is a centered housing with 28 spline axles and a 5x5.5 bolt pattern. I bought the bracket kit with the spring perches and the adjustable lower control arm brackets on eBay for $100 shipped. I also bought the weld on gm metric brake caliper brackets for another $25. I plan on using Suzuki side kick rotors. By doing the brakes this way it will only cost around $150 for everything for a disc brake set up. I also bought a mini spool and chrome moly pin from quick performance for $35 and I plan on running 4:11 gears. When it's all said and done I will have a 9" for around $800 including buying different wheels for the 5x5.5 bolt pattern.
