Currently my 79 has the 2 barrel carb. IF I swap it out for the 4 barrel would it be a direct bolt on or would I require the intakemanifold?

Also the 301's with 170hp, what did these engines have to give them 20 extra hp?

You need the manifold. The 170 hp version had a hotter cam.

301's respond real well to the old 400 H.O. cam from like a WS motor, just be sure you have enough carb and exhaust, 2 1/4" duals or a single 3" work well on those. It's never gonna be a race motor but they can surprise you.

Thanks guys. Is the intake manifold from the 301 turbo the same as the n/a 301?

I know they make an aftermarkrt cam kit from comp cams. I just got a true dual system with cat delete mostly for the sound and looks. But I was thinking if I switch out the granny gears, add the 4 barrel and possibly a cam swap it can be a pleasant surprise.

One more question, was the 7.5 posi only offered with the 28 spline axles?

You can get the smaller 26 spline 7.5" posi. Other than the Monte SS, which are 26 spline, the stronger 7 5/8" posi are 28 spline.

The 28 spline would just require swapping out the axles? There seems to be plentiful 28 spline posi carriers out there but not many of the 26.
