Since you have it tore down I would get it powdercoated. POR15 needs rust to stick to, looks like that has been removed.

I like POR15, it's tough and resists damage and rust later much better than paint. Use Metal Prep to neutralize the remaining rust and make it stick better. POR15 does not have UV inhibitor in it, plus it is very glossy when cured. You need to apply two coats to get full coverage, and this must be done while still tacky or you have to scuff with 220-320 grit once it has cured. You may want to finish it with semi-gloss Top Coat - also have to apply while the POR15 is still tacky.

thanks guys, I like the idea of powder coating it.. I already bought the por and the metal prep, just a little worried about it not really having much rust on it, hope to por stick the way it does with the rust

You can use it when the metal is stripped down.....but definitely use the metal prep or the POR15 will flake off. It gives the surface an etched surface for the paint to grab. I've used it extensively on my build as well as others, but i follow the directions to a T. I did my 10 bolt with the aerosol, but make sure you get the type that is NOT UV sensitive!!!!

Chassis coat is also a good product dries to a flexable coating. I just used it for the first time this fall, blew off the dust and painted right over the rust without a problem.
