Has anyone tried or ran a 3rd gen Camaro (1987) power steering "cooler", just a long return line. About $10-$15 on Rockauto. Looks like it would hang under the radiator support with a clamp or two? Needing a return line for my new box and saw this. Gates 371000

I've been toying with the idea of using the trans cooler in the rad since I got a stick car. As long as there is good air flow & it's secured that should work.

I just wasn't sure about "reach"- difference of height and distance between steering box and radiator support in Gbody vs. Fbody

we used a power steering coolers on our circle track cars but that was because those cars ran at 6200 rpm most of the race.....never needed on my street cars.....

I've long wondered what real difference those "coolers" actually make. Like pontiacgp, I use a trans cooler for my power steering on my race car and would do the same on a street car. Have you looked at better stock coolers? A lot of trucks had them, both of mine do. I know in the dead of summer the PS on my 1500 sucked at an idle, but that was from a POS reman pump. I later swapped in a clean original pump, box, and cooler from a 3500 and it works great now. My Corvette has its PS cooler behind the radiator if packaging is a concern. That's where I intend to move the Camaro's cooler eventually. For now, it's just fed by a 3" brake duct hose.

I use an aftermarket cooler on 1979 Z-28 ..Its all plumbed with AN fittings and braided line .And there are a variety of coolers out there .Like ones for Street rods to one with their own fan .Thats when you get creative on how you install it .I put an inline filter and temperature sensor as well.

They sell aftermarket tube and fin P/S coolers for pretty cheap. Generally recircling ball power steering runs cooler than rack and pinion power steering does.

If I'm not mistaken, some older Caddys used power steering coolers. Police cars, of course.
