doing a 5.3 ls swap in my 80 elco. Just replaced the power steering pulley with the smaller one to avoid hitting the gearbox. pulley flush with end of shaft but needs to go back about 3/8 more to line up with other pulleys. Whats the fix for this problem? will the pulley go further on? I know the tool bottomed out.

you running truck setup, F body setup??? My install tool had different length adjusters. However I'm running ICT brackets with truck pulley spacing, and a Turn one pulley.

"Should" be able to press the pulley on further. Pics would help to see potential clearance issues. I know my pulley is on real far and there isn't much room to the line fittings.

So what I figured out was I didn’t need the smaller pulley after all. I will not assume in the future just from reading , lol. Smaller pulley would not press on any further and after studying it a bit , I just couldn’t see the larger pulley hitting the steering box. Installed a new truck pulley and back to perfect with plenty of room . I can put my hand between the pulley and steering box. 1 inch setback mounts with clamshells.

make sure your hood will clear the alternator. I had the truck version of the alternator bracket and I had to buy a camaro alternator bracket so the large case CS144 and now AD244 will fit, the camaro bracket tilts the alterator to to the side. Along with the camaro bracket I had to buy a crank pulley from a car so the pulleys will line up cause the camaro bracket sits out further. For the bracket on the passenger side I shimmed it with 4 washers on each bolt to get the pulleys to line up.....

As aggravating as this was, if there is a clerance problem , we may have some custom work on the hood, LOL
