need some advise. my 96 ford f250 wouldnt start.i turn the key on and it wont start. i notice the odometer didnt show the mileage. as it normally does. i thought the battery was dead so i tried to jump it same thing. so i jumped the solenoid on the fire wall with the key on and it fired up.i took it for a ride and it shifted hard. the speedo dont work. the starter is a couple months old the solenoid as well a couple months old. i replaced the ignition switch. tried again same thing. i did researched and seems nobody is having the same problem either one or the other. i did check # 18 fues witch is for the speed sensor and the cluster. the fuse is good but. i checked for power on the prongs in the fues box i have no power there. was wondering if the cluster needs replaced. wasnt sure if the power runs to the cluster then to the fuse box. i am not good at electrical on cars or in this case trucks. thanks

Is your neutral safety switch a box on the trans?

Just spitballing here, as electrical isn’t my strong point, but kinda sounds like what you said about no power getting to the cluster or a ground problem... if the computer isn’t getting a speed signal from the cluster, it sounds like it’s hitting predesignated points and not pulling out power at the shift... I know that you just did a lot of body repair on it, maybe some corrosion at the ground, Ora connector pulled loose?

as a ford tech for almost 30 years it dont have a bcm, to old. Does ck engine lite come on with the key? Can you hear fuel pump turn on for approx 5 seconds? dbl ck all fuses and fuses under the hood, Im gonna look up wiring now, there is another fuse for the psom (speedometer) the psom takes the abs sensor reading and sends digital signal to pcm, the abs sensor is a voltage generator that makes its own signal with no external power sources applied to it. Ok ck fuse 8 as well. see if fuse 15 has power, both 15 and 18 recieve power from same source. Which is powered by fuse 10 under the hood which shows it is for the start curcuit too, hope this helps

Sounds like a ignition switch problem to me. The one in the steering column. Good luck!
