Yeah, Dynamat or equivalent is pretty amazing stuff. Now, granted, a Tacoma [especially Gen Ones like mine] is a beer can on roller skates but when I gutted mine to redo the soundsystem I matted everything I could and it was really a weird sensation when I drove the truck the first time without the soundsystem on, just doing the white noise test and it seemed literally like something had happened to my hearing. Kind of like my hearing had become muffled but it was literally all the extraneous and resonance noise the Dynamat had eliminated from the interior sound level. Of course, then you turn on the new soundsystem, and you love it even more. Since it ain't cheap, on my 442, I did not consider doing my trunk lid or even the trunk floor beyond the deck where the sub sits considering once that area is closed with my flip cover that only from there forward into the interior was the "sound booth" so to speak. Now, not so much . . . might depend on just how much extra I will have to buy when I get the rest done? Well, that and how much I have struggled to get done what is currently on the table. [details . . .] But certainly something to think about . . .

Good job D!

Thought I’d share the findings from the underside of my rear seat halves.
I love this kind of stuff, it’s like a glimpse back into history.

From the seat back:

And on the backside of the same tag (yes, this came out of a Cutlass):

This one is on the seat cushion bottom:

I have no plans to remove the broadcast sheet, I’ve seen a ton of them over the years and I’m pretty sure there’s one behind the driver’s side upper door panel as well anyways.
Instead, I will leave it for the next owner of the car to find long after it’s left my hands.
:)

Last night was a good night.

After finding myself with a free evening and not interested in sitting in front of the idiot box, I decided on a whim to take the Olds girl out for a late night spin. I stopped off and topped up her belly with some fresh premium and headed over to the local idiot hangout to grab a coffee and watch the usual spectacle.

On the way over, I could tell she was feeling particularly grumpy, in the best possible way. The evenings here have been especially cool and crisp lately, good air for making big power.

After spending a couple hours talking with several people that took an interest in the car, I decided it was time to head out and put a couple miles under her before retiring for the evening. As I was pulling out of the parking lot, I must’ve caught the attention of a guy and his girlfriend in a newer Hemi Challenger. He came flying up beside, then slowed down to match my speed.
Oh yeah.
It’s on like donkey Kong b*tch!

Olds Cool didn’t disappoint, she was already pissed off and ready to rock. Kicking down a gear was rewarded with a particularly violent fishtail into second and she left a healthy patch in the process. As she came into the powerband, I pulled away by 3/4’s of a car length and stayed firmly put there through 6 grand at full song. We had to stop for a light and turn a corner, but then it was game on again.

Apparently emboldened by the closeness of the last matchup, he decided he wanted to have another poke at the bear. He was either sleeping, having a sandwich, or just gawking at the primer and white goodness beside him, because I cut him down at the light and promptly gap-tized his *ss. After getting and staying out on him by 3 or 4 car lengths and well into triple digit speeds, I decided enough was enough, deserted streets or not.

All that with tiny 14” wheels and a full tank of gas to boot!
SUR-PRIZE!!!
Man I love beating up on Mopars.
😁

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person that realizes his car has it's temperments.... The Chief will have his days where he will barely pull away from a stoplight, and others I can't keep the rear from breaking loose!

great experience with Olds cool, plus a fish/kill to boot! though I may not like the idea of beating up on mopars (I may have GM's and Fords in the driveway, but I' truly a mopar guy at heart), it's awesome to have an older "grandpa" car beating up on the new "muscle" cars!

Darin, no disrespect intended to the fans of Ma Mopar.

It’s just that it seems like everyone and their dog around these parts has been drinking the Mopar or No Car KoolAid for far too long. All I see during my daily commutes are new RAM trucks, 300’s, Chargers and Challengers, and they all seem to be the ones tailgating and driving like complete a$$holes.

I know that’s painting a large majority with the same tainted brush, but frankly every once in a while it feels pretty damn good to knock one of these pompous pricks down a notch or two. Aside from the two Harley guys that thought they were fast, nearly every time Olds Cool and I have been challenged has been by some jackass in a Dodge of some sort. Usually it’s the diesel pickup guys “rolling coal” through their redneck stacks sticking through the bed and stupid 36” lift on “44’s”. (Seems everybody has “44’s” on their “I have a small pecker” lifted truck these days).

Besides, it was a bit of sweet payback for having my *ss embarrassingly handed to me by an AWD SRT8 Cherokee the month before!
😅

Anyways my personal anti-Dodge rant is over, to each their own. It just felt great, and to show I have no issue with what folks choose to favour I gave Mr. Challenger and his girlfriend a thumbs up out the window for the experience before we both parted ways.

I know it wasn't a personal attack, I think I forgot to add another line or two to my post .... and you're right abut the average dodge owner nowadays.... there's alot of good ones, but most just think with the checkbook mentality. Don't get me started on the guys "rolling coal", or have the "carolina squat" thing going :blam:

Hey everyone, long time and no updates on this here thread. My apologies for that.

It would seem I underwent another of my “crisis’ of motivation” events, and this most recent one lasted longer than most. In fact it’s been several months since I’ve even been in the garage much less picked up a tool. That combined with battling through a couple of illnesses, and, well, here we are.
Sad part is, the weather here has sucked the proverbial tailpipe ever since the last week of August so there’s been virtually zero seat time in the Olds girl lately either.

All that came to a head this morning however, when I opened the door to a foot of snow! Enough of this sh*t, time to get back out into the garage and crack down again. This winter will be the final big push towards getting the last of the bodywork done and the car in paint. The goal, hopefully if all goes well, is to have color on it by spring.

With that being said, I needed a starting point to get myself back into the swing of things again. I know I should really continue on with where I left off on the AstroRoof, but I’m still just not ready to dive back into that mess just yet. Instead, I decided to tackle a little project that’s been bugging me for quite some time.

Starting with giving the top of the passenger side fender a good cleaning with wax and grease remover, I started preparing the area to get the unneeded antenna hole welded up. Once the area was down to clean bare metal, I cut out a patch for it with a hole saw and laid the patch over the irregularly cut hole. (Someone had added an aftermarket antenna at some point and butchered the hole in the fender)

With the patch overlaid, I traced around it and opened up the hole to a uniform size, then started tacking it in:

A little fine tuning and tweaking as I went, I got it fully burned in. I took the opportunity to remove the silly little fender trim piece too as it won’t be going back on, and buzzed up the hole for that too.

Once it was all ground flush, it was metal finished in 40 grit and is now ready for a skim of filler:

It ain’t much yet, but it’s a start. From here I’ll probably go onto skimming and blocking it out, and then maybe onto the lower part of the same fender as it’s got a few damage issues from a previous owner.

That’s it for now, but it definitely feels good to finally get back to work on it. Hopefully the motivation will continue again this time, updates will follow as progress warrants.

Thanks all,

D.

Glad to see you getting back into the swing of things. I've been going through withdrawal waiting for updates, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
