For the A/G desinations, '78-'81 was A body. Due to the new FWD "midsize" to replace the RWD, GM chaged them to G body for '82-'88. Your LeMans transmission crossmember is set up for the TH200/TH250/TH350/Saginaw 3 & 4 speeds. You'll need a different crossmember & a extention bar on the drivers side to use a TH2004R. There are several aftermarket crossmembers for our cars that are better than the originals that will allow true duals & different trannies.

I don't see anything about a frame extension in the product description, but maybe the styles have changed over the years. You could also get your stock crossmember notched. That's what I've had done to mine.
It's been a popular question over the years. Search the old topics here on the forum until someone else chimes in.

Interestingly, my 1980 Chevy factory manual lists the base model Malibu as an "A" body and the high end Monte Carlo as an "Asp" -or "A- special". Then as Pagrunt said- in '82 the base models were dropped and the "specials" became the "G" bodies.

I just want to share that my Jeg's crossmember does not line up with any headers, SBC, BBC, Pontiac, Olds, or Buick.

The G-Force version is heavier but fits better.

Here's the one I have for my 200-4R swap. It's an old Ice Man crossmember which is an excellent copy of the G-force. You'll notice it has the left side frame extension.

Sorry i have not got back sooner learning something here for sure. Thinking going with a TH 350. Then if i ever wanted to run a PGlide i would be in good shape. Now you all are getting worried about Headers and fitting lol :) i get some free time i get a pic up soon :)
