Quick Speedometer Question

Just got a quick question. What speedometer cable do i need for a 700r4 in a 1981 regal. I guess I don't know what length I need or what, if any, g body came with 700r4 from the factory.

As long as you have a 700-R4 with mechanical speedo sender, there is enough slack that you can just plug yours in. You'll likely have to swap the gears to match your rear axle ratio. Some guidance:

oh yeah its already got one in it and hooked up but the cable is shot so I wasn't sure if I had to order it online or if I could get one at a parts store using another vehicle

Since you have a G with a 700-R4 sitting in it...any chance you would be able/willing to measure your driveshaft, center of u-joint to center of u-joint? I have a driveshaft I already shortened for a 700-R4 and someone is interested to use it in a MC and I want to make sure it is as advertised. Thanks in advance for the data point.

yeah I can probably do that going to work on it tonight. So no one knows of any factory style one that will work then?

Should be about 49.5" c/c. I used a shaft out of a Safari/Astro van two wheel drive. fit perfect.

In exchange for your time, here is some data:

The short cables are probably for those cars with cruise control. Pull yours out and measure length. Remove it from the back of the speedometer by pushing the friction ring towards the speedo, then pull back on the cable.

Thanks that's what I was looking for. I couldn't seem to find what if any gbody came from the factory with a 700r4. Wasn't sure if they all came with the 200. I'll measure my driveshaft tonight when I go work on the car.
