I'm wondering why the rad supp is mounted on soft bushings?(mine are soft but they're 30 years old) I can understand perhaps to reduce body vibration. Wouldn't a firm connection between the frame and rad support increase rigidity and make the front end solid?

The core support ties the front of the body together and since the body itself is mounted to the frame on non solid body mount bushings then the core support needs to be mounted the same way. if you used solid bushings for the core support you would want to do the same for the rest of the body mounts and they do make them in aluminum but not something you would typically put in a street car where isolation from vibration would be important.

I would think the rubber helps the radiator core survive.

The above two replies make sense. The General does know what he's doing when designing the body assembly.
