My Ford 8.8 Rear in my 1995 F150 is pretty worn out. I was planning on replacing just the clutch packs but when I removed the cover I could see that there is some play in the spider gears.

So now I am planning on replacing the whole carrier. I can buy a complete new Ford Performance carrier from Summit for $250.

I am a newb when it comes to setting up rear axles. My question is if I replace the carrier, will I have to reset any of the ring or pinion settings? Or can I just measure the shims that are currently in place and put new ones in the same way with the new carrier?

Also I assume I should/will have to replace the carrier bearings?

Thanks in advance. I have taken rear axles apart and reassembled on the same order but I've never set one up or build one from scratch.

You shouldn't have to mess with the pinion. But you will have to reset backlash and preload via carrier shims. You will need new carrier bearings and races.
