Hey everyone. I’m at the final stages of finally getting my body back on the chassis and the last thing I’ve noticed is it appears that the position 6(behind the rear tires) rotted out and the hole enlarged. I suspect this was caused by the old bushings sitting in those holes for all those years. The metal around the holes are solid though which is good. I’m trying to figure out what to do here and wanted to see if anyone has run into the same issue and what did you do. I fabricated a piece out of 0.025” thick steel that I was thinking of welding over the hole and area, then punching out a new center while. The issue with that is I’m worried of welding steel over the original metal Which would add a additional 0.025in of height. Would that throw off the body alignment? Also know that I am not the best welder so I’m not confident in my ability to cut out the origainal metal and cut and weld in a new piece flush. Just trying to find a quick and easy way of repairing this. I have added some pics.
Thanks for your help gbody buds.

Thank you! I have been trying to find a washer like this and have had no luck! Do you think it would be an issue if I just set it in on top And welded it? Would that negatively effect the geometry of the body? Thanks again.
Try to get them welded in as flat with the frame as possible or expect to have to use the same thickness washers to even all the mount locations.

If the washer gets distorted at all bushing won't go in easy. Try to not distort it with too much heat.

Weld in flat plate and cut a hole with a 1 5/8" hole saw.

Like this.

Just be sure to mark your center on the plate before you weld it in. So that you drill in the right place or use a 1 3/4" hole saw and give yourself a little wiggle room.

Thanks. This is what I’ve been thinking of doing. When you welded in this plate, did you address the height difference on all the other holes by adding a similar thickness washer or welded the same plate on all holes?
