All those who have done a mini tub job on their Malibu....how well did the oem upper seat seation fit after the tubs were done?

I added a 1-inch strip into the factory wheelhouse and now the back-rest sits out and leaves a large air gap between it and the lower seat section. Before I cut some of the wire framing out of the seat skeleton, thought I would ask if there were other fixes?

I’m interested in the responses and your solution, as I’m mini-tubbing mine right now. I’ve got an extra junk back seat I was thinking of modifying before doing anything to my actual seat.

Did you notch the chassis?

Yes, and then aligned the inner wheelhouse with the side of the notched frame.....

I worked on a car in the years past with a mini tub like this (notched frame rail and a 2 inch filler strip in the tub and I think the corner of the frame was bent up out of the way and it fit right back in.

No I dont have pictures but would like to see some of your car as this is next on my list of long term goals for my Monte.

I made the mistake of having the seats re-upholstered before finding the problem. I think the bolt cutters will be used to cut a few of the wire ribs out.....unless anybody has a better plan?

I had heard something a while back about cutting and reweldibg the wires, but would be a pain if your upholstery is done. Where are you located? If we’re close, we can chop up my junk bottom as the guinea pig.

On a separate note, could you post some pics of your mini tub job?
