My 2+2 steering wheel is in real tough shape. The adhesive is seeping out from the leather and the leather is loose, dirty, and starting to degrade. The base wheel frame looks in good shape however.

I have called a few upholstery shops but nobody seems to answer or get back to me when I say I need a steering wheel done. The 2+2 used the same steering wheel as a fiero GT or some TA's so they aren't exactly rare.

Why are recovered wheels so crazy expensive? Is the work that hard to do or is the leather that expensive? I just have a hard time understanding why they are so expensive to buy recovered any why nobody I ask seems to want to recover it. Any suggestions on places I can send my wheel to get redone for $100ish range or are they that special? I just see an hour of time for someone that knows that they are doing and maybe $40 in leather. Confused how they end up to be $400.

$400 for this recovered one

From what I’ve gathered, it’s more tedious than hard. When I bought my ‘04 Avalanche secondhand, the original leather was pretty beat. An auto upholstery shop charged about $200 to re-wrap it. I think they just wrapped over the original, but it gave the wheel a thick, grippy feel, so I didn’t mind. I think you can buy DIY wheel wrap kits online.

Why not consider a good leather stitch on steering wheel cover? If you buy a good quality wheel cover, I can assure you that it will look good at a fraction of the price.
I put one on my other car years ago and it looked great for many years, but it's starting to look a little raggedy now. It's lasted for over 30 yrs.
This is one of the companies http://wheelskins.com/ There are more out there.
I would wrap it again using a good quality leather cover.

Like Longroof suggested, I bought a $10 leather wrap off Amazon. Initial fit sucked even though I got the smallest size (doesn't sound good), and I didn't like the shiny leather finish. So, I took it back off, tediously punched another row of holes, flipped it inside out, and reinstalled it. It's not Donovan/Ridler quality, but looks way better and is more comfortable. I'll see if I can dig up pics (should be near the end of the build thread).
Found it, post 763: https://gbodyforum.com/threads/operation-lipstick-on-a-pig.64137/page-77

I would totally go with one of those wraps and do it myself, but the leather on my steering wheel that goes toward the center is some of the worst shape and is really degrading.

I think I'll reach out to that Joe guy and see what he can do.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Awesome. Thanks for the contact. My trim guy won't do it. I've been wanting to re wrap my 78 wheel and some f- body wheels.
