Was looking up a set of axle bearings and came across these repair axle bearings

They have a seal on both sides for when the axle gets a wear spot from the old seal, so how does oil get to the bearing?

I thought those were for when the original bearing spun in the housing?

I have no idea. I assumed it was for the wear on the axle. But still how does oil get to the bearing?

From the interwebs

The axle repair bearing assembly replaces both the bearing and the conventional seal requiring no additional parts. The repair bearing moves the position of the bearing and seal so that they ride on an unworn section of the axle shaft.

That's odd, I don't remember those having the inner seal, but that was 25 years ago when I worked at Ronk Auto Parts in Ronkonkoma. We sold a ton of them back in the day.

The part of the unit that goes towards the center will allow oil into the bearing, but not out. Oil will be sealed in only one direction, but will seep in the non sealing direction. I'd fill the bearing with gear oil before installing the axle.

Do you need them? When I did the rear in the Pig, I was going to throw new axle bearings at it. That's when I got the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" from my mechanic buddy. We just did the center section, filled it with synthetic, and the wheels bearings are as smooth as butter.
