Replacing Trunk Support

Happy Holidays everyone!

My car has the original shock supports and would like to replace them. When purchasing they look small compared to stock.

do i need to drill new holes? won’t reach when i try to change it wit trunk closed.

Those are the stock GM trunk dampeners you have. I'm guessing your car is an 81/82.

GM tried those out early on for a short time span before going back to the torsion bars for trunk lift supports.

Unless they no longer work, why replace them? They have a compressed spring inside them. So they most likely still function fine. They are not available in the aftermarket, so anything else would be a custom installation.

Or you can get a set of the torsion bars and install those without any custom work.

they are working fine, but when they do fail i can go the torsion bar route.
