Anything within 100 miles of NYC is suspect but I'll take Deb's Inlet over most. The water stays clear right up to August and there is no brown foam scum. No industry and little boat traffic makes a huge difference. FWIW my Doctor says take nothing from LI Sound because of Mercury. DEC say take nothing at all between here and Montauk. I have been eating NYC fish for 50 years and I'm not glowing- YET!! In fact I see no issues at at all.

I am helping a guy with a 1980 Trans Am with a Pontiac 400. He wanted those cool Pontiac chrome valve covers that were offered from '67 to '72. I usually get them at swap meets but they seem to have dried up lately. Fleabay prices are through the roof for rusty originals. Cheap repops are not correct looking and quality is terrible. So I saw that there are some very good looking reproduction ones out there at somewhat decent prices though I have no idea who is making them. I elected to try a set from New York Restomod since they are right here on Long Island in Farmingdale. They had the best price w/free shipping. That way if they were junk I could easily return them. You could also pick them up, or see them first, at the store itself. Well, was I surprised to get them withing two days Priority Mail. Upon opening them up I thought they were actual factory valve covers. They are that good. Heavy gauge steel, triple chrome plating, correct openings for the breather and oil fill cap, and they even have the dripper rails welded inside to oil the rocker arms (Very important! Many do not!). I looked back at the Fleabay page and the price has gone up $5 since I bought these but they are still much cheaper than most other venders at $95. Hey Bonnewagon, I just stumbled on this thread. I am looking for a new set of original style Pontiac valve covers and these look to be just the ticket. I just have one question regarding the internal drip rails. The original factory valve covers that employed those rails showed the spot weld dimples on the outside top surface of the covers. In the pics of the New York Resromod valve covers I don't see any trace of those dimples. In the set that you saw, did they have those spot weld dimples or was the top surface smooth? Thanks !

Paladin, the surface was smooth- no sign of the spot welds. Not sure how they managed that but they did. The drip rail is only one side though. By that I mean the factory drip rails have two tongues per rocker so both ends get oil. These have only one so I positioned them at the top to catch the push rod squirted oil. I also had some grunting to get all the holes lined up- they are not perfect. A bit of sqeezing was required to get them all in line. But then I used stainless bolts and washers to defeat rust and they look great. Here is a pic of them on the motor. The chrome is awesome but if you even breath on them they smudge. Lots of Never-Dull in the future.
