I wanted to start a thread of my back story to my 79 Monte. I have memories from many years ago of riding in my father's Monte Carlo. This same Monte was given to me for my 16th birthday. (I'm now 34)
Just before my father gave it to me he decided to remove the body sand blast the frame and re paint it. He then placed the body back onto the frame and it sat in a garage completely taken apart for close to 20 years.
That is until I finally got the motivation, funding, and somewhat of enough knowledge to get going on this project. So we unboarded the garage loaded it onto a trailer and brought it home. (I will add photos soon due to I'm getting a error from unloading on mobile.)
I decided to go with a 5.3 and at first I wanted to do a quick swap. Well, needless to say that quick swap turned into a complete rebuild.
At this point I was way over what I initially planned on spending. So I thought about it and decided why not do everything I would like to do to it. Even if it does take way longer or cost more? The vehicle will be in the family forever and I will never sell it due to being a gift from my father.
So I then decided to re sandblast the frame, do a mini notch, box the rails, and me being extremely picky I slowly smoothed the factory seams which took ages it felt.
I went with UMI stage 2.5 kit with full coil overs, quick performance 9 inch rear end, wilwood front and rear brakes.
I'm planning on painting the frame within the next few weeks and I'll be painting it metallic silver. Which I honestly can't wait for. Here are a few other items I purchased for my build including some decent tan seats.
I'm no expert and honestly learning alot of things as I proceed with the build. Which has been a blast for me. I know it will take time and I've been extremely discouraged from time to time. But I plan to keep this thread open and updated until I reach the finish line.
