I am planning a road trip to San Diego California. Just wondering if anyone knew of any cool things to do down there or on the way.

You could take route 66. It's certainly not the most direct or the quickest way but there's probably a lot to see.

i actually just drove from seattle to ny like 2 months ago. it was awesome. the route really didnt matter since it was my first time.

I would say drive west towards LA, you can hit up US 101 and ride along the coast. but the ride from LA to san deigo when i was out there was nice even on the freeway

Depends on what you're into besides G-bodies. LOL

There are a ton of things to see and do between SD, if thats where you're at, and So Cal. Cool mountain areas in Colorado, as well as a Bud brewery in Fort Collins with a tour. Pikes peak is worth a look. Cool at the top. Literally. Temps take a big drop even during the summer months. 4 corner area in southwest Colorado. Kinda touristy with lots of American Indian stuff. Grand Canyon, Las Vegas. Lots of great beaches and shoreline once you make it to Cali. If you're into watching freaky people or you are freaky yourself, hit Venice Beach west of LA. Time it right and google Pomona swap meet. It only happens like once a month during the summer I think. Huge find anything type of swap meet. If you're real adventerous or like living dangerously, cross over the border south of San Diego into Tijuana. Kinda rough anymore with gangland drug cartel stuff going on.

Any car stops on the way? Might see if I can make up to Pomona and hit up the Peterson museum

Are you talking Bonneville while the speed trials are running, or just a trip there to see the salt? Wendover has gambling if you're into that, I'm not. One campground behind a casino if you're camping. Depending on the weather and whether you're there during the racing or not, they won't allow you on the salt. If they're racing, you can walk out there. If its wet, you'll sink and need pulled out. LOL Then they'll hunt you down for rutting up the course. LOL No, not speaking from experience, but I was warned ahead of time.

Las Vegas has NASCAR and Drag strip action if you timed it right. At least one car museum in the vegas area too I think. Been close to the Peterson, but haven't visited there yet. On the list tho. Fontana CA has NASCAR track too. Only a few strips left in So Cal tho.

Prob just look at the salt. It said they only race when its dry on their web site it looked like that was in august September.

Ill have to look into the museums in vegas. Never even thought about the nascar tracks. My grandpa and uncle were at vegas and rode around the track in the petty experience thing.

There are some very nice underground cavern tours on I-10 near Casa Grande in E. AZ if you end up out that way, but I forgot the name of the site specifically. If you are coming from N of LA don't miss out on the Route 1 and that 16 mile stretch with all the nice houses. The road is especially nice coming to / from Monterrey & Pebble Beach but breaks off (it literally did break off too it fell in the ocean lol) suddenly @ a few points and rejoins the 101

We drove all the way down the coast from SF to La a few years ago. Unfortunately, part of it was early morning and the fog was so thick I could barely see the road much less any of the scenery. I got to see the shoulders of the road around Carmel. LOL. I've also driven the coast from LA to San Diego a couple of times. Nice, but not as scenic in my opinion as the drive further north.

There are things to do in New Mexico and Arizona, but I'll say its also some of the most boring put you to sleep areas in the nation in a few places. LOL. Last trip out that way the highlight of part of the drive through NM was seeing a tin cover with a horse standing under it. Nothing else for miles and miles. We wondered what the hell someone had a horse for out there all by its lonesome in the middle of nowhere. LOL

Those of you dissing NM just didnt stop in Las Cruces or the cave tours I was talking about. Also, Silver City is very cool but it has high elevation so really no point in going to Silver City unless going to spend a day there and really see most of the mountain/nature it has to offer. When you see a horse/ *ss middle of nowhere like that NM a mexican somewhere is trying to revive himself w a giant cup of water in the pass seat of a silverado thanking god he made it across lol
