I watched a very cool video about modern day rocket building and a company called ULA that's a merger between Boeing and Lockheed Martin
Has anyone else seen friction stir welding?
Here's a short video

The Bobcat hydraulic cylinder manufacturing plant is in my home town and they had a tour a few years ago where they friction weld the chrome cylinder shafts to the forged yokes.

Those things GLOW. Not quite as fancy/controlled as 2D stir, but it is a cool process for sure!

It's very cool technology for sure and very $$$$$
ULA (United Launch Alliance) has a machine proprietary built that fuses 1" thick aluminum and it's like 40 feet long. For rockets ya know. 😆
