Rust repair ... Fuel Line

Even in Arizona, we get rust. Not like in the Midwest, but rust nonetheless.

In order to pull the fuel tank so that the fuel pump could be replaced, the line connections were so rusty I had to cut one of the lines. It would have been easier to just use a short piece of fuel line, but in this case I wanted to repair, so that the normal plastic connector could still be used.

Photos attached shows the process. This is done, in the event that somebody else comes across this issue, this is a potential repair for this problem.

Rusty damage lines...

Clean up the rust, using file and sanding sponge...

Replace connectors, with all new plastic...

Not shown, but reinstall tank and check for leaks.

This method can be used to repair nearly any section of the line as well. While an entire new line with no connections may be the best option, sometimes you don't have the room to replace the entire line. I did this with an old 65 Impala 2 door boat. The line was in good shape except for a 2 foot section along the frame.
