So i started by taking out the interior to see how bad the floors were. From under the car it looks solidish. Well after half the floor came out with the carpet i knew i probably was gettin into a little more then i th

ought. So it was at this moment i decided to go the distance. Im no bodyman or mechanic or welder/fabricator. Im a gutter/siding guy lol. I have welders and compressor and tools. My plan is to copy emeMack rollover jig. To get at the bottom after i drop the frame out of the body. I know its probably a bit ambitious. But i have 2 months of every winter(indiana) and 2 yrs on my lease lol. It looks like i need 2 inner wheel well plus the back seat brace is rotten on the ends and the inner rocker it attaches to is rotted so im thinkin only way to fix these issues is frame off. Any and all guidance accepted and appreciated.

You can stop now, buy something else, and still be money ahead in the end.
I agree, you’ll be in way over your head, get frustrated, lose interest and any money put into it. As you stated with your lack of abilities ( for now) you should start with a project that doesn’t need rebuilt from the bottom up. If theres anything good on the car keep it for parts and find another of the same to build and learn.

Well bein from the north you wont find a rust free g body for less the 10k. Im not worried about money the frame actually solid the rear frame rails are good but the mount holes i assume are rusted. This my 4th g body this the best outa the bunch maybe my 81 calais was better. Anyway this car has value to me. My mom bought it for me and she just passed plus if we junk every g body that rusted thered be none left. Thanks for the advice guys i knew it was coming lol. Do you think i should seperate body from frame b4 i fix the floors ?i have a buddy with a sandblasted frame for 400 but pass ac mount needs fixed.

No worries, that rust on your Monte will cover up nicely with POR 15. Just brush it on thick and the finish will turn out just like it was sprayed.

True, prices are going up for clean G bodies. In West Michigan, car prices are 5-10% higher than Southern states not to mention the salt corrosion. So many get ripped off buying local. Even 2 year lease vehicles are a rip off just when you consider the corrosion but yet so many people still buy them....many are also duped into buying Canadian vehicles (the chloride capital). So many Canadian vehicles come in through the wholesale auctions.

I hope you have atleast one friend thats exsperianced in a job this big. I don’t want to discourage you. BUT it is a big job. There are a bunch of small but very important details that need to be thought of. One- unless you take out ALL glass you’ll need to protect it from all the welding and grinding . Even with my abilities of body work, I’d be considering getting another car. If you stick with what you have, atleast you have all of us to guide you. I actually enjoy that kind of a job. But then I’ve been doing bodywork since 73, pro and hobby. GOOG LUCK
