81cutlass touched on this under the thread of stick conversion kits. thought i would start a thread on it.

The AR5 5 speed out of a colorado is a good option behind mild v8's these days. Stronger for sure than a t5 and pretty cheap ($200-$400). The adapter plate does have some cost to it, but its about $1000 for the adapter plate, clutch, trans, slave cylinder combo. About what a T5 would end up especially assuming most are beat to crap and these AR5's are easy to get.

Interesting option. Only downside is the low first gear in the AR5. I bet a 383, 400, or any big block could pull it down the freeway with 2.73-2.93 rears to get close to the magic 10:1 compound 1st. Effective final drive would be around 2:1 in overdrive.

I know the guy who designed it decently well. He blew 3 AR5's up in his colorado under boost at like 800hp but they live under 600 pretty good. He was trying to break it. He is pretty sure the shafts or case are deflecting and it blows up 3rd gear. Beyond that, for damn near any NA motor they live.

It uses a LS 4l60e bellhousing. SBC or LS kits. If you want BOP quicktime has a BOP 60e bellhousing but like everything QT it's stupid expensive.

There is a good FB group "FABbot public page" for info. Here is a photo of a guy who had an AR5 in his MCSS. It fits pretty good! Better than my t56 placement for sure.

Buddy has one in a lifted Volvo 740 wagon on 30" BFG mud terrains behind a turbo 5.3. It seems to tolerate the 500 wheel horsepower pretty well.

Obviously, this trans is severely underated, supposedly rated at 260 ft/lbs. Basically the same gearing a the late V6 Camaro T-5. Taking 600 HP and a Turbo 5.3 in an off road application shows some strength. Curious how much low end torque it could take? So the Quick Time BOP bell housing bolts on without the adapter?

No Oldsmobile?
Exactly, why asked the Quick Time BOP bell housing question and how much torque it can take. I would assume the Solitice and Sky are the only RWD versions available up here, almost impossible to find any non 4x4 truck newer than the mid 90's up here.
