Yes you can. They are generally low rpm torque cams with wide lsa to keep reversion down and chance of sucking water into exhaust.

Just make sure it isn't a reverse rotation cam.

IMO flat tappet cam and lifter sets are dirt cheap for SBC why not just get a new one that fits your application and increases performance.

25 years ago I helped a buddy freshen up a 283 on a high school kid budget. We scrounged a cam out of a marine 350 (cracked block) because it was free in my uncle's scrap pile. We never measured lift or checked it with a degree wheel but it ran good. Pretty strong mid range. It sounded really good through short duals and a pair of mini turbo mufflers. I'd day it made a good street cam but wouldn't call it a real performer.
