When installing a sbc oilpump from the bottom does the distributor have to be removed or is there a way to install oilpump with rod that goes into the distributor from bottom of the engine? Thanks

I would remove the distributor and oil pump driveshaft first and if you haven't already replace the shaft with one that has a steel collar.

What will cause a oilpump to stick open and shoot oil out of the oil filter
Hmmm?

What’s the oil pressure? And where is the scene of the crime (shooting)? Gasket?

Never heard of this problem, maybe an issue with the factory oil bypass valve under the filter.

Do you have two gaskets on the oil filter? Like the old one was stuck to the engine and you just installed the new one on top of it. Been there done that.
