The secondary hangers have a letter stamped on them. Closest to A alphabetically is richer. The holes for the needles are drilled higher letting the needles come up higher. Your secondary needles have numbers too but I just look at them to see richer ones. The richer ones will look like needle tips or if you've ever had a clicker pencil that lets led out when you click it, they look like that. An HEI ignition is pretty hot so just playing with a few set ups will get you dialed in. Super easy to change. Remove air cleaner lid, unscrew the screw in hanger and lift the hanger up. The needles are just hanging on it.

thanks ill have to go to the junkyard cause the only spare rods i have are off a 800cfm q-jet on top of a 454 and they will probably drown the little 307

you could try CZ rods, they are .01 smaller at the tip than the DD rods you have now and will allow more fuel to flow. I'm not sure what letter your hanger is though so I'm not sure what hanger to suggest to you.

check quadrajetparts.com. They have lots of hangers and secondary rods to choose from. DD rods are the leanest so anything so you can only only go smaller.

here's a list of the rods... s is short tip, m is medium and l is long.

Power tip lengths determine when full enrichment occurs:
---S (Short power tip) Full enrichment occurs at 90 degrees air valve opening.
---M (Medium power tip) Full enrichment occurs at 80 degrees air valve opening.
---L (Long power tip) Full enrichment occurs at 70 degrees air valve opening.

open up your secondary air flaps a little more by grinding down the dead stop tab. Let that engine breathe.

I would go with a long power tip to get the fuel in sooner. go richer on the rods step by step and see how the engine likes it.

Hanger will have an effect on when the fuel comes in too.

A 307 pushing a land yacht? I'm thinking you better stick with the factory set up. Then figure out what if anything is really wrong. Like try adjusting the secondary air flap tighter, the idea being that the primaries should be almost WOT before the secondaries open up. Opening too soon results in a bog that will baffle you into thinking it needs to open sooner. Nope, later is better. And I found out the hard way on my 301 that the lean factory secondary rods (the same size that come on EVERY 301) are just what the little motor needs.
