Fortunately I am in the business and know the guys at SEM I was able to discuss with them during SEMA last year some of the points and steps to re color interior panels to come to a surprise that there are 4 steps to "properly" color the interior with SEM products. I know that some have gone over painting interior panels with different brands so I thought that I would include the 4 step process with SEM products on my recent center console project.

1. Cleaning of the product with SEM soap 39362 and a RED Scotch Brite. It calls for Grey, but I had some scuffs and heavy dirt build up so I needed some cleaning action.
2. Application of Plastic and Leather Prep SEM 38353
3. Application of Plastic Adhesion Promoter SEM 39863
4. Painting with SEM Color Coat

First step is to use sem soap liberallly and clean the items with the scotch brite until no "beading' occurrs during rinsing.

If there is "beading" armor all, dash products, etc are still present on the surface and you must apply more soap and keep cleaning.

I had this issue and kept cleaning until water laid on the surface and needed compressed air to force dry.
Shown cleaning the seat backs as I forgot to take pictures of scrubbing the console pieces....

2 step was using SEM 38353 to clean all the panels thoroughly by spraying directly onto the panels. You will then take a lint free cloth and wipe them down. What is surprising is the dirt continues to lift off the panel. What you will notice is the panels start to become somewhat white and take some of the color pigment from the panel but leave behind the grain of the panel. I asked the guys at SEM about this and the process is normal and you are just removing the years of dirt and color that is no longer good. And that the Color Coat will restore the finish.

3. Is to use the SEM 39863 Adhesion promoter. Recommended process is to apply a light misting coat and let dry 5 mins.

SEM says to then apply a wet coat of promoter and let flash for 15-20 mins and less than 30 mins, time for refreshment!

So after refreshments, quite a few of them..... I was ready for final coat. Sem says 1 to 2 coats is sufficient. If you take the prior steps there is no need for clear coat, or multiple coats. The only exception on a clear is if someone is looking for a different sheen. The color coat I used gave a nice satin to semi gloss finish, just like the OEM interior finish was.

So the last step was to apply the final finish. So far my panels were scrubbed, plastic prepped, adhesion promoted and they were ready to go

second wet coat after a 10 minute flash

Final product after a good drying in the sun for a bit.

I want you to notice the last picture of the console lid and how badly dried and discolored it was. Then look at the final results from when I put the console back together again. I applied 4-5 wet coats of paint and allowed a good build up. Since this product is elastomeric I thought that it suffice for some lost top grain surface and i was right.

Here are some other misc pics of me taping off and laying the silver stripe around the console base.

Some before and after refinishing pics of the console base. I think it was definately worth 25$ that I paid for it!!!

Some notes on the color. Me and Brian from Gbody have a disagreement on the color match of the SEM blue to the Blue he offers. I personally like the deep color blue that SEM offers. If you are looking for an exact match you should use his paint. It has a more of a blueish grey tone to it and matches the original colors perfectly. I have chosen to paint my car soon with a deep midnight blue metalic so i want a rich colored interior blue, so I chose the SEM. My entire interior was finished using this system on every panel inside.

Here is one seat back versus the other. This is a final finished version versus an un touched, non cleaned seat back. big difference.
