I'm thinking about doing a motor swap on my Cutlass but can't decide rather I should go with an Olds 350/350 trans or a Chevy 350/400 trans?
The Chevy 350 is from a 82 Chevy LWB truck and Olds 350 is from a 72 Olds Cutlass.
Which swap would be the easiest? Can you guys help me with a list of things that would be needed for each swap? Any pointers that would make the conversion easiest?
oh boy, this arguement again lol. if you already have a 307 int the car olds is easier. if you are strarting from scratch or have a 3.8 the chevy in MY OPINION is the cheaper easier route
If you go with the chevy 350 go with a turbo 350 trans, unless you're planning on a lot of horsepower. The TH400 takes a little more power to turn the internals of it over than the TH350 does.
Since you are coming from an Olds 307 its easier to put an Olds 350. Its a direct drop in and you can reuse all your existing brackets motor mounts exhaust etc. If you convert to the Chevy not that it is hard but you will need motor mounts and brackets etc for power steering stuff for the AC in the correct location etc. Plus things like the battery starter fuel lines are on the opposite side. Power and longevity wise they are very comprable.
In your specific case I would say the olds engine would be best, it is gonna have more power than an 82 350 truck motor. Setting it up of course is simple, you already have everything needed. Good luck.
