I was replacing the Signal/wiper stalk and somehow it broke leaving the wiper switch spinning freely. Now the wipers stuck in the on position. I pulled the fuse for now but will obviously need to fix this.

Question is do I need to replace the turn signal switch inside the column or is this just an issue with the stalk?

my stalk stripped out too.grab the black part and kind of like pry on it like you're trying to break it in half (gently) and it should catch enough to turn the wipers off.

Depends on what's broken. If you broke the switch, yeesh. The switch is a PITA to replace because you have to partially disassemble the column. Plus it's expensive AF for what it is.

I'm assuming you have tilt wheel and delay wipers?

If so, that's GM p/n 7843683. NOS one on ebay for 135 shipped. Aftermarket p/n is DS817. On Rockauto they're 123.99 plus whatever shipping. So around 130 shipped. Even if you use the 5% discount because of taxes.

If it's just the stalk itself that broke, then you can just get a new stalk.

Appreciate the info and the P/N's! I have 2 stalks and they both spin pretty freely so i'm thinking the assembly is damaged
Just make sure to check to see what options you have because the switch is different depending on which ones you have. If you have delay wipers (CD4) and tilt wheel (N33) then you can use above numbers. Many cars had this in 88 so it's likely you have them. If not, you'll need the appropriate switch.
