I have an exhaust leak on the passenger side. It seems to be coming from the straight pipe section (the vertical piece) coming from these smog manifold tubes, it’s also missing whatever sits on top of it. Looks like it broke off or corroded off.

What piece is missing and how hard to replace? Is it worth it? I want to drive around without massive exhaust leak.

There's a check valve. This ensures exhaust does not back up to the air (smog) pump.

So just I’d check valve is broken off, this could cause exhaust leak? Just want to make sure before I go down this rabbit hole.

Bump. Is this worth replacing and how hard to even get the bolts out? Is there a way to cap where the check valve broke off?

Yes, it would create an exhaust leak. You need to decide what you want.
Do you have an emissions program that you need to adhere to? Yes? Replace it. No? Weld it shut.

I plan on doing an engine swap in the next year or two. So I want to enjoy the car until then. Really just want the exhaust leak fixed. I figured it will be hard to try and replace, especially unbolt 35 year old bolts that are in the exhaust manifold.

I don’t have a welder.
