The blend went about halfway down the door, To make things more difficult the old paint job is not very good. There's a slight bit of texture, but luckily the painter was extremely skilled and was able to lay the paint down with the same "rough" looking texture. How painters can spray on paint to make it glass smooth or add a little texture I will never know.

I could see the blend. But as you stated, blends on older custom (non OE) colors can be difficult. Without a full repaint, sometimes there's only so much you can do.
