Just wanted to know and get some feedback and recommendations of what I can use for a space saver spare tire.
What kind of cars would have a spare that would fit in the spare tire well of a wagon.
I'm currently using one my original 14" wheels as a spare, but would like a rim with more clearance and a diameter that would be closer to what;s on the car.
What kind of cars should I be looking at as a donut donor? I'm guessing a 16-17" rim.

Another concern is having a rim that will clear the Blazer brakes. I'm also considering using the Blazer disc brakes in the rear.

Any G-body donut would work... if you can find one...
The smaller 15" versions that I had on my wagon while I painted it were considered the 'standard' spare.
There was also an either 16" or 17" donut that was the same height as the stock tires that came in cars equipped with a factory limited-slip rear.
Have a look around your local wrecking yard. I know around here they pull the spares out as soon as the cars come in and throw them in a shed...

Surprise AZ.
I have one out of an 80's RWD Cadillac. It is a 16 inch I think. It also has both GM bolt patterns. I do need a 1/4 spacer to get it to clear my front calipers. I keep a set of stock lug nuts and the spacer in a zipper bag under the tire.

Thank you Blake, Paul, and John.
I appreciate your suggestions and advice. I don't know if I'm asking for too much. I guess I want my cake and eat it too.
I would like a spare that would fit in the tire well and be the same size as the tires on the car. ..26.2"
I'm concerned not only for a rim that will clear the brakes, but also something that won't hurt the posi-traction if i had to change one of the rear tires.

I do plan on taking a junkyard excursion soon to see what I could find. I remember a few years back the local yard had a 3rd gen Camaro with the alloy space saver wheel in it. A guy beat to it within minutes.
It even had the can of factory tire filler.

You don't normally see the spares still in the cars...you're right about that, Blake.
At least I now have an idea what cars to check out.

Once again, I appreciate it, guys.

My wagon was missing the spare tire but I threw a normal size 195/75/14 in and it fit. I think the wagons have a large enough spare pocket for a normal 26" tire on a 6" wide wheel.

If you need to clear a blazer brake setup pontiac has 15x6 steel wheels on late 70's 2nd gen F bodies and and late 70's B bodies. I think caprices pre 80 also had a 15x6 steel wheel.

Thank you, Jacob.
I actually have a spare 15 x 7 steelie, like what's on the car currently. They used to be easy to find at the junkyard on B-bodies and some F-bodies like you said,,,,especially 15 x 6's. The 15 x 7 might be a little too wide to fit in the well?

Thank you for the offer. I'm going to comb the junkyard first. If I have a problem finding one, I'll certainly let you know.
