Redid the gauges in my Regal a few days ago. Took out Auto Gage by Autometer gauges, and replaced with some Speedhut gauges. When I put the Autometer gauges in, I tried to do it cleanly. But it didn't turn out that way. I also put them in the worst spot I could find. Mainly because the oil pressure and water temperature gauges would only make it under the dash.

I ordered the Speedhut gauges with 18 ft of oil pressure line, which was way too much. 12 ft probably would have been fine. The install was fairly straight forward, crimp a few connectors, snap the harnesses together, give it power, good to go. I first put them in the same spot under the dash, just to make sure I had my wires right. That's when I took this video,
showing the dial dimming with the supplied inverter and potentiometer, and then the dial and pointer dimming with the stock dash dimmer.

Then I took everything apart and started trying to find a better spot. I was first going to mount them down the side of the dash, stopping just above the radio pod. But it blocked the fan speed switch, and I'd spent enough time almost ripping the gauges off the bottom of the dash, I didn't want to do it every time I turned the fan on. So I went with right on top of the radio pod with some heavy duty Velcro. My wires may not look the prettiest, but I can see the gauges clearly, their much more accurate than the Autometer gauges, and they look way nicer. I was trying to get the gauges to glow the same color as the lighted dash insert, but I'm a little off color.

Have you considered just modifying your factory dash and then you can add a Speedhut speedo and a larger tach along with fuel and volt gauges

I'd thought about it when I first started messing around with the car. I think what stopped me was drilling holes in the factory dash pieces. I'm not sure why, but it kills me to do anything to original factory pieces. Even the four little screws to mount the gauge pod under the dash had me squirming. Also, I don't think I can replace the dash trim piece, with the not-at-all out of style wood grain. I can get the Grand National one, but I think that would look goofy with an entire interior wood grain, except for the dash. The cars not really a super high performance deal, so a big tach and speedo wasn't really anything I needed anyway. I do want to make up some kind of box for the gauges, so it looks better than four gauges velcro'd to the radio pod. But thats going to have to wait, because today at work, a guy slid through the parking lot, and hit the back end of the car.

I was thinking more like modifying your factory dash piece to house all of your gauges but it would require using aftermarket gauges to replace your current factory ones (Speedo, volts, fuel)
The first dash I did many years ago was in my 81' Regal and then a similar set up for my 83' Monte (1st picture below) which I used Lexan to fill the open area and do a gauge layout and then used a matching vinyl woodgrain to cover it.
Later I did my current new dash for the Monte using aluminum plate with removeable inserts and painted it black after removing all of the out dated woodgrain from my car.

Also if you don't want to modify your dash you could remove your ashtray and make a set up like I did for my 86' Regal that will mount under the dash that won't look so out of place.
