Does anyone know if their is supposed to be a ground attached to the speedo cable, where it attaches to the back of the rally pack just before where it screws in ?

All ralley clusters I’ve seen have a slip connection with a clip no ground for speedo cable
I have a black wire with a clip at the end that fits perfectly around my speedo cable at the base just before the part that flares out that the clip attaches to? I'm not sure where that wire goes then. I myself have never seen a ground on the speedo cable either, but one of my friends that fairly knowledgeable with these cars told me that was a ground for that?? None of my gauges are working as of now. But I also can't connect my speedo because I don't have enough room to grab it ti clip it.

yes, that goes on the speedocable. but its not a ground for the gauges. its to help reduce noise in the radio. gauge ground is a wire in the cluster connector.

There is also a small 3 wire ribbon for the cruise control optical sensor in that general area. Could it be that?
not sure I was told by another member it does go around the speedo But it's for noise suppression for the radio. It does fit perfectly around the speedo though.
