I took the dash apart today to clean it and trace ground problems. There's a sensor in the speedo from behind. What is this for? Speed governor? I read something like this years ago for 3rd gen. F-Bodys. If it is, how can I get rid of it?
Next thing is, the speedo is the 85mph version. Is there a 120-150mph, or better a 200-240km/h version available? Maybe from another car? I mean, my daily commute consists of a 30 mile stretch where I have the cruise set to 100mph on my daily driver.

VSS. If the computer is still in the car and functional, you'll need it.

Canadian cars used KPH speedos, might poke around for one of those

Check some of your fellow European GBody owners. This one came from Switzerland. It predates the computers and has no speed sensor on the back of it. An alternative may be finding a 1988-1991 'square body' Chevrolet or GMC truck/van speedometer with the VSS and trimming it to fit. I did that for a tachometer until I found a GBody version.

Do you have photos of the tach in the G body cluster ?

Thanks Doug

I'll look, but I think it is long gone, and the computer is not coughing up a photo yet. I picked up a cluster from a 70s Camaro at a swap meet. I trimmed down the tach face with tin snips, leaving tabs where the round GBody clock bolted in, and put electrical tape over the two idiot light cutouts. Ran the wire to the tach input on the HEI cap as usual. Did not require mods to the Malibu cluster.

The round speedo. I'd like to add a tach instead of the clock it has now too.
If Van or square body truck/Blazer parts can be fitted, that would be awesome. They're plenty around here, but still mph mostly.
I already thought about getting a 2:1 gear for the speedo cable and print a new faceplate for it.
