Hey folks, I remember reading on here somewhere that the Monte SS steering box is the close ratio type and it has 4 bolts holding it on. I have 2 Monte SS's, both original, and neither have 4 bolts just 3. Was it just an option? Thanks.

So what bolts differentiate the different steering boxes? I thought it might be the bolts on the top of the steering box, but my friends LS (original) has 3, then I read on here that it was the number of bolts thru the frame that held it on was how you could determine. Thanks.

all the saginaw boxes were mounted to the frame the same way with 3 bolts..the box was marked on the end cover but most of the time that mark has disappeared...you simply have to turn the shaft LTL to determine if it a close ratio. If you find a box that has a 2 LTL it is a box from a F body car with stops at a different angle than a g body box
