Hi, guys. There is a problem with 350 diesel starting due to overheating of the starter motor. It’s new, but the problem was diagnosed also with previous starter. It cranks good while the engine is cold but when it’s hot I need to wait more than 30 minutes to run the engine.
Anyone have the solution?

Put a piece of Aluminum Sheet metal between the exhaust pipe and the starter with an air gap. Swap the Clutching fan on the motor with dual electric fans from a Dodge Intrepid/90's Chrysler 300.

I've fought with hot soaked starters before. Tried heat shields, adding ground strap from starter bolt to frame, new battery cables, ran the LT1 starters, to only slightly better performance. Switching to a high torque mini starter helped alot, but after long drives in summer, still would have a longer crank on hot starts.

Painless "hot shot" relay is what finally fixed it. All you need is a standard 30/40 amp 5 pin relay, and connect as such.

Pin 85-purple start wire from ignition switch.
Pin 86-ground.
Pin 87-battery cable lug on starter
Pin 30-start terminal on starter solenoid.
