I am planning on converting a 84-88 Monte SS from auto to manual and have been looking in to a steering column with the key lock. I know there are several ways to do this but I came across this and was wondering instead of changing the entire column could I get this and adapt it to the stock one? What is everyone's thoughts? Thank you

I think there are other parts that are needed but I'm not 100% positive. I also think the other parts are obsolete...

Looking at this and comparing it to a disassembly PDF I found I am thinking this won't have the parts that I thought it did. I was hoping to find the key release lever pieces and just add it instead of scouring for another column.

You might be better off grabbing the entire manual column from and S10. In fact, manual tilt columns are still out there, the holy grail. There are other differences, but you'd have the whole set of parts for the conversion.

True. I guess my next step is to find a column. Does anyone know what years I should look for?

Is the key release necessary? I would imagine it’s just a good idea to have the key release

I wrote a detailed post on here last year of what needs to be done to build a tilt column. The S10 column is NOT a bolt in as the lower shaft is short and the lower flange is different. You use parts from the upper portion of the S10 column and A/G body items for the lower portion. If you don't need tilt I could put you in touch with someone who has several 78-81 non tilt manual trans A body columns.
