I'm looking for a tilt steering column with the key release lever for a manual transmission. Currently I have the lock pin disabled so if I shut the car off the wheel does not lock. I'm looking at a 79 Camaro tilt column from a manual car. Other than having to move the wiper switch to the dash is there any other mods that need to be done?

Steve,
I'm guessing the standard trans column from a 3rd generation F-body would be similar or quite the same except for maybe the length.
I also recall being mentioned in the past about using a standard shift S-10 column for parts to be used in combination with a G-body column.

Thanks, I'll look at the 3rd gen F body. As far as the S10 I don't they ever had tilt columns but I could be wrong

I think Quinn had experimented with a standard S-10 column using the parts to convert a G-body column to standard.
Perhaps when he sees this thread he'll elaborate.

i have one of these but haven't tried it yet. 1990-2002 f-body ignition cylinder, made for manual trans with a key release button. it might be a great alternative.

Steve,

The first gen (82-94?) S10's did in fact come with tilt and set up for a floor shift manual transmission. When searching through sources like car-part.com these columns are often referred to as "tilt/floor shift" columns. To my knowledge the first gen S10's were not available with a floor shifted automatic transmission so any floor shift column should include the key release.

I have a floor shift/tilt column from a first gen S10. I intend to use parts from it and the column from my car to build a column which has tilt, the key release and the multi-function switch (wipers, turn signals, cruise, etc.). A few members on here have built columns similarly, like Eric (Clutch).
