I'm trying to install a Forever Sharp steering wheel hub adapter on my 86 Monte Carlo. It seems as though the adapter won't fit far enough down on the splined center to allow for the spacer and nut to fit and complete the assembly. It also leaves a gap between the adapter and the steering column. When I try to tighten the adapter down, the wide splines on the rear of the steel center bite into the aluminum adapter. Is my steering column not stock or something? How can I resolve this issue? The photos should show everything I'm dealing with.

Bump... any ideas? I was thinking of trying to lightly file the wide splines where it seems to bind...
