Dumb question maybe. My 85 El Camino is missing the steering wheel nut. What size nut do I have to look for?

Those are thin nuts, I guess you don't have wrecking yards with GM cars around you, maybe someone here has one they could ship to you. I don't think that thread is metric and they are SAE 9/16" fine thread

Thanks a lot! Non-metric bolts and nuts can be had here, I just need to know what to look for as they are special order parts in metric land.

I could be wrong about the thread though so I hope others will pop on to confirm or correct

Figuring 85 Elky is the same as 85 Olds Cutlass, the nut is an M14 x 1.5 if that helps any. Only part numbers I've found for that is 11609658 and 26056108.

The retainer that clips on the end of the shaft is part number 419454. You don't really HAVE to have this, but it should keep the nut from coming all the way off driving down the road. :)

Not sure if they'd ship to Germany, though.

HTH.

M14x1.5 would be perfect. I have this size in my shop to check. With the GM part number I can get it at any Opel dealer here in Germany. This part# has a direct Opel part# equivalent.

Just to clarify, simply because the part number was found doesn't necessarily mean GM still has them in their warehouse. They may have a superseded part number meaning there's another part that will work and is GM approved to work. May not look exactly the same, but fit and function will do the trick.

Part numbers are always a good place to start, however. Good luck.

21044092 and 19151769 are other similar part numbers to try along with those others. Again, good luck. I'm sure you'll find something.
