The interior facelift of my 78 malibu is under way and I will be installing head unit shortly. What kit are you guys using to install the head unit into the dash? This car was pretty hacked up when I got it so all I really have is the factory black "face plate" piece where the radio once was, and whatever was once behind it to support the weight of the radio is long gone, so any help would be greatly appreciated. The new unit is fairly light but I still want it mounted securely.

Mine was in a very similar boat, I decided to go with a double din to cover the entire thing since I have HVAC deleted. Main thing I tied into was the 2 sides to support the unit, although I have my amp and crossovers beneath it as well

An easy way to get a modern radio is get a '86-'88 Monte Carlo/El Camino radio face plate & get a aftermarket install kit that fits most '82 to about '02 GM's. Fits the 1.5 din radio opening & will fit most 1 din radios. This is just an example, just look up '86 Monte Carlo or El Camino then find a radio you like.

I would buy it here since its cheaper, but I had 2 of these for when I was trying to figure it out. I had purchased single din radios so I had more flexibility to move it around as I needed. But ended up swapping out both radios to double dins since i didn't need the movement

I'm gonna stick with single din. It's been in the box for a while. I want to say it's only a few inches deep, since it's a bluetooth type and doesn't have a cd player (i dont use cd's any longer) so should work out good

Yeah sorry I would never try to talk someone into the insanity that I decided to put in there
