I bought a 8.5 rear end but it has a chrome moly pinion yoke which is 1350. I wasn't prepared for this, meaning that I thought that it would be the stock size. Does anyone know if the stock size is 1330?

Thanks, I actually ran across the converter u-joints earlier and thought that my problems were solved. Except that the guy doing the work is worried that it could cause a vibration or driveline noise. The new driveshaft showed up in the mail today, which is a whole new story. It's the GMGN1 from the driveshaft shop. they don't give the u-joint size so I called them up and asked. The guy said that they are 1310. So now I'm all sorts of confused.
We are going to look at it tonight when I get home, but the guy (Rich) working on the car thinks that I should just order a new stock pinion yoke. He thinks for what I'm using the car for (not racing) that I should be fine. The new engine is going to be 350-400hp at the wheels.
Looks like I'll have a 1350 chrome moly pinion yoke for sale in the near future

Took two months to get this driveshaft, and the soonest to get one from Denny's is 4 weeks, the car will be ready to go in about two weeks. On top of that with a %20 restocking fee plus shipping I'd be out about $135 and, the driveshaft for 1350 's is $150 more.

You dont need to send anything back , there are u joints made for whatever set up you have ! 1310 1330 have the same size caps 1.062. and you can get a combination u joint to fit it to your 1350 yoke . I just did the same thing on my sons nova , and i also had the drive shaft shortened 1'' and re-balanced . The 1330 joint is a little wider just under 1/2 inch , but the 1310 will work. Also if your considering pulling the yoke of the rear end beware you are opening yourself up to some potential problems unless your going to buy pinion install kit and install new crush sleeve , once you remove the yoke nut you will lose the proper torque and risk gear noise and premature gear failure , I know some people are going to say you can take a punch and witness mark the nut and count turns , and i have done this also with mixed results about 50/50

Can always go to a truck shop like catco or fleet pride and have them build a drive shaft.

The only thing different between a "performance automotive" driveshaft and Richard in the industrial park who works at catco is that "performance automotive drivelines" put's a sticker on theirs.

Automotive performance drivelines are the biggest markup, no value added industry I swear in hotrodding. They do the same thing as absolutely ever town with a semi truck shop that builds dozens of driveshafts per week but charges a premium for it. They buy the same DOM tube, the same u joints, the same weld on ends, balance on the same type of machine, as everyone else.

I have a hard time believing they would have used 1310 u joints if you bought it from a performance shop.

If you have a caliper or even a tape measure, measure the cap width and diameter.

If its factory GM 90% of cars and light pickups get the 3RL in the diff, 1310 on the slip yoke. 90% of aftermarket is 1350. 1330 is a big goofy and not THAT common.
