An example of what I don't (yet)know mechanically. Is a stock 79 Chevy V-8 water pump, long style, w/clock wise rotation ? Is a high flow good enough for around 500 hp.with a triple pass dual 1"row aluminum radiator? Stock fan.

The original was a long/clock wise pump. For using a high flow I'm thinking if there will be A/C might be something else to add to the water pump needed.

A high flow will not necessarily get the engine to run cooler. The coolant has to flow slow enough to pick up the heat from the block

A high flow water pump will help cool the car off provided there is sufficient air flow through the radiator. Increasing the speed of the cooling medium through a heat exchanger increases heat transfer because it makes the water more turbulent which exposes more of the water molecules to the surface of the heat exchanger. So say you have a radiator with unlimited cooling ability. The best pump would pump the water through the engine as fast and turbulent as possible. Smooth, slow flowing water only contacts the outer surface and does not conduct heat as well. Its like grilling a burger. Turn it up real high and only the outside burns. But cut it open and expose the inside and it cooks faster and evenly.

Add some water wetter. It breaks the surface tension of the coolant and provides a better wetted surface inside the jackets. It actually works. I am x2 on a quality fan clutch. The aluminum radiator will transfer heat better than the copper ones in the days of yore. You should be fine. Make sure your shroud is in place, and you should have the little plastic air dam on the bottom of the core support . it creates a high pressure area forward of the radiator while driving. Keeps the air going through the radiator not under the car. They are usually missing, curbs and such.
