I'm gonna try to make this brief. Intermittent sound coming from underneath the rear of the engine near tq converter. Sounds like a lifter, but hollow and random and definitely underneath. Sometimes it's there sometimes it's not. My flywheel isn't perfect, but there is no contact with the starter or anything. My trans guy said it wouldn't be the pump or converter. Not piston slap, not a main bearing, not a rod bearing, etc. It doesn't sound or show signs of anything internal.

Today somebody suggested a loose windage tray. It's very loud but comes and goes. Sounds like nothing I've ever heard in a sbc. The engine runs great, no misses, spins up to 6k+ rip it up and down the street. And yet when I'm not on the throttle it reappears sometimes, sometimes it doesn't.

Anybody ever had a mystery sound like that?

I traded a set of Brodix heads (FROM 1980!) to a guy for a S10 with a small block that "had a broken crank" I get under it and the left side of the trans was 3/4" away from the engine, while the right side was flush. It broke a perfect circle out of the center of the flex plate. I had it running that day!
