I’m finally getting around to refinishing my track wheels that I got 2 years ago now. My original plan was to do polished lips and gloss black centers with fake black bolts.
Since the 5 star design is similar to my new fronts, I thought it would be cool to do a full polished look. The problem is the insert for each star shape is rough from casting, and I wasn’t willing to spend the time to smooth it out. My dad had the idea to paint those areas silver. I test painted a center cap metallic silver, I wasn’t 100% happy, I felt like it clashed with the polished look. I knew if I did a full poliushed center I’d never be happy with it, I just don’t have the right tools for the job.
So I landed on my original plan of black center, polished lips. To tie in the front wheels I’ll use a black center cap. I also had some custom center cap stickers made eith the 80’s era rocket logo. I played around with the idea of buying new fake bolts, but it turns out the origunal pot metal rivets are polishing up nicely!
I tend to be a perfectionist with stuff like this, I keep having to remind myself that these are track wheels and will probably get some rash along the way. More than likely nobody will be looking at these wheels as close as I am looking at them.

I painted one wheel today. It came out decent, I got a few runs while trying to paint inside the lug holes. I’ll fix that when I’m ready to paint the second wheel.
I also ordered the correct length center caps for the skinnies from jegs. I think the gloss black center caps will tie in the front wheels nicely.

Oh, also. I made a rookie move on saturday. I was replacing the passenger side window motor, and I broke the glass. 
Calling a local glass shop tomorrow to see if they can get anything.

I ended up finding a passenger glass. I also got both wheels polished and painted. I’m waiting for the paint to fully cure so i can install the faux bolts.
Overall I’m 80% happy with them. They certainly look better than when I started, and the center cap really sets them off. The polish job is not perfect, there is still a light haze. The paint is ok, I got some very slight peeling when I took the tape off. I’m gonna try carefully running a razor blade around the edge once they fully dry.
