If I had a T-350 and the detent cable was NOT there, how would it shift? OK? or not at all? My friend claims it drove OK before it was parked. I can't tell what trans is in it because it has a terrible oil leak at the oil sending unit and car can't be moved even for a minute. The passenger side is tight up against a fence and I can't get in there at all. For all I know it may be a T-400, and the lack of cable would support that. I just need to know if a T-350 would be drive-able without the cable.

In that transmission it's for passing gear only.you can drive without it hooked up.

Many thanks melloelky. Exactly what I needed to know. Now I'm wondering what if anything they stuffed the hole with if it is a T-350. I'm pretty sure at rest the oil level is above the cable hole. Turna- I have that exact jack- for my trailer. It coils in fear of a real car. I only use a 3 ton jack or better anymore.

I don't think so. It does have an aftermarket shifter stuffed in the console hole. We are putting a stock shifter in asap. This is the "unstuck" motor. I just got the cooling and fuel under control, fresh oil change. Motor runs great- I built a Q-jet for it. I'm afraid to even move it right now. Oil leak and a tie rod end with no nut on it!

This car was violated by idiots building a "race " car. If I had them in front of me I would decapitate them for all the stupid sh*t I'm finding. So I am not surprised at anything anymore. They ran 20ft of rubber fuel hose from the gas tank to the fuel pump. The fact that it was right up against the headers was of no concern. Boat carb, wrong plugs, wiring hacked, no detent cable, no front shocks, brake hose to frame mounting clips missing- tie wrapped. It's endless.
